Army’s efforts in wiping out Boko Harm in the North East shall be sustained, says GOC

Out-going General Officer Commanding 3rd Armoured Division Jos, Plateau State, Major General Hassan Umaru, yesterday said that the Nigeria Army’s efforts in wiping out Boko Harm in the North East shall be sustained even as the Army has kept faith with the December dead line issued by the Federal Government. .

General Umaru made this known at the handing over ceremony to usher in the new GOC 3rd division, Brigadier-General Mohammed Aliyu.

While Geneneral Umaru is resuming in Maiduguri as the new Theatre Commander, Tactical Headquarters, (Operation Lafia Dole), Brigadier General Aliyu was transferred from 21 Brigade, M to Jos to serve as the new GOC.

The two Generals encouraged officers to be more united in fighting the insurgents, urging them not to allow sentiments to inform their judgement.

Umaru said: “The on-going battle against the insurgents will be won only by our collective efforts. We must continue to pray for each other and shun indiscipline in the discharge of our duty,” he said.

The 3rd division commanders were also advised not to turn their back when they see any junior officer misbehaving urging them to take seriously the welfare of the junior officers working under them as they are the frontline soldiers.

Meanwhile, as part of activities marking the handing-over ceremony, Geneneral Umaru commissioned a 100KVA generator at the All Saints Military Church situated in the 3rddivision.

Meanwhile, Adamawa State Government has dispatched an assessment team to Madagali over Monday’s suicide bombing that claimed 17 lives, reports the News Agency of Nigeria, NAN.

The state Commissioner for Information, Mallam Ahmad Sajoh, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria on Tuesday in Yola.

“So far we have 17 dead and 41 injured who have been taken to hospitals in Madagali, Mubi and Yola.

“The state government has directed free treatment for the injured,” Sajoh said.

The commissioner urged residents to be more vigilant to prevent such attacks and report suspicious movements and objects to security agencies.

Sajoh said that the state government would intensify enlightenment campaign programme in the area to reawaken the people on security consciousness.
