If you ask women what the most uncomfortable item of clothing they wear on a daily basis is, the majority of them would say it is a bra. Bras can hurt the back and neck, chaff the skin, and they can even cause the cartilage of the ribcage to become inflamed. The problem is that most women feel better with some support and prefer the shaping bras give.
Bras can suck sometimes, most people feel uncomfortable with their bra on due to one reason or the other. Luckily, there are ways to make wearing a bra better and they don’t all involve spending money on a new bra. Sometimes, even when your bra is the right size, it’s just not that comfortable.
Here are some tips to make your bra more comfortable.
Make sure you are wearing the right size: First things first: make sure you’re wearing the right size. Have you ever had a proper bra fitting? Most women are wearing the wrong size, and finding the correct one can really change the way your bra feels. Get two opinions if you’d like, and don’t be afraid to do a lot of trying on and testing out different brands and sizes to find the one that really works for you.
Wear wide straps or bands: Wide straps may not look as great with certain items of clothing, but try to wear them as often as possible. Wide straps are a little bit more comfortable and they also give more support. You should also look for wide bands, which do the same thing.
Make sure you adjust your bra: Many ladies didn’t know they were supposed to adjust their straps after buying a bra, the new bra always had the straps tightened as much as possible. You may need to loosen your straps all the way, or at least a little bit. You should also make sure you’re playing around with the band. After a while, things need to be tightened. Remember that just because you started with the straps super loose doesn’t mean they should never change after a few months wear.
Bra with no underwire: The problem with bras for some people is that the underwire hurts them. It can poke as you move and sometimes it will dig into your sides. Choosing a bra that does not have underwire can be more comfortable. There are lots of bras without underwire that offer good support. If you have a bra size on the smaller side, you may want to go for bra without underwire. Underwire can be super annoying and uncomfortable, and if you don’t have to wear it, don’t. Unfortunately, girls with larger chests need underwire for the extra support. If you need it, go for soft underwire.
Go for a T-shirt or cotton style: A lace bra with lots of embellishments is super pretty and fun to show off. But are those practical for every day? Not really. When you’re just wearing a bra to school, go for a simple cotton or t-shirt style. These are more comfortable, lighter, and not as much as maintenance.
Tube bra: Tube bras give support and coverage without wires or other parts that dig or poke. They are basically like short tube tops. They are just material made to fit around your chest area. Since there are no straps, they can be a good choice for some dressy tops. The downside to tube bras is that they are more prone to shifting because there isn’t as much to hold them in place. If you have sensitive ribs, the bands may still aggravate you depending on how tight you buy them. Look for wide bands, they are usually more comfortable than a narrow band that will dig into your chest.
Change them: Don’t wear the same bra every day, in fact, don’t wear the same bra two days in a row. Bras get worn very easily, they’re delicate. When you wear them two days in a row or every day, you’re stretching them out and they’re going to wear out much faster. That means they’re going to get uncomfortable and misshapen faster as well. Always try to switch them up, this is why it’s great to have a few different basics options. You should also be buying new bras every few months because they really don’t last very long.
