Actress, Mercy Aigbe reveals the meaning of her unique Muslim name ‘Minnah’
Mercy Aigbe, a popular Nollywood actress has spoken out about the powerful meaning of her unique Muslim name, ‘Hajia Minnah.
The thespian, who recently converted to Islam months after marrying her Muslim husband, filmmaker Kazim Adeoti, explained the meaning of her name on her Instagram page.
This is in response to the mixed reactions that followed her name Minnah’, as some netizens berated and criticized her for allegedly modernizing her name Aminat’ or ‘Meenah’.
The 45-year-old actress responded by revealing that her name is Minnah, which translates to “mercy, a gift from Allah” and that it was suggested by her husband and she loved it!
She encouraged Muslim parents to call their daughters Minnah, a sweet and unique name.
The mother of two wrote,
“I saw a lot of comments from some Muslims saying it’s Aminat, some said it’s ‘meenah’ and mennah is not a Muslim name etc 😂 so it is not Aminat, neither is it meenah… The correct name is MINNAH 😁
I understand it’s not a common name so a lot of people aren’t used to it, it’s a powerful, sweet, unique name that’s why when hubby suggested it, I loved it 😍
