Anambra orders autopsy on council chairman’s late wife
Anambra State Government, and the Women Arise group pledged to bring justice for Mrs. Chidiebere Iloka (the wife of Mr. Mbazulike Iloka, suspended Chairman of the Transition Committee in Nnewi North Local Government area.
Mrs. Ify Obinabo (Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare) cautioned that violence cannot be used to resolve marital problems, and stressed that prayers and tolerance were the keys to a happy marriage.
Obinabo made this statement while speaking with journalists in Awka after the clamor for justice for the dead.
The Women Arise for Change Initiative Anambra State condemned similarly the mysterious death of the victim due to domestic violence and battery.
The group expressed displeasure over the incident, as contained in a press statement signed by its Chairman and Secretary, Vincent Ezekwueme, and Pastor Chinyere Akpufor, respectively.
The group lamented the development come just a few months after a gospel singer, Osinachi Nwachukwu, died in mysterious and controversial circumstances over purported domestic violence.
The group, therefore, called on the wife of the state governor, Mrs. Nonye Soludo, and the commissioner for women’s affairs, in conjunction with the National President of Women Arise for Change Initiative, Dr. Joe Odumakin, to organize capacity-building seminars for women to educate, enlighten, empower and properly equip the women to overcome domestic challenges and problems bedeviling them.
The group said, “It is quite unfortunate, despicable, and detestable that information at our disposal and lamentations from neighbors indicated that the deceased might have suffered domestic violence husband.
“It is pertinent to note that evil triumphs not because of those who do it, but because good people sit back and do nothing. Women, mothers, and wives should not continue to die in silence over the wrong perception that husbands are the pride, shield, and prestige of women, hence, a woman has to bear and endure assault, humiliation, and domestic violence to the detriment of her health, life, and dignity.”
