Chidi Mokeme opens up on how he was arrested and put in jail
Chidi Mokeme has shared details about his encounter with law enforcement, revealing that he was apprehended and incarcerated after his crew was halted by the police while en route to a movie set.
In the interview, Chidi Mokeme delved into the incident of his arrest by the police. Chude, seizing the opportunity, pressed Chidi to narrate the sequence of events.
Known for his candidness, Chidi Mokeme openly discussed the circumstances that led to his detainment by the police and subsequent conveyance to the police station before being placed behind bars.
“I had several encounters with the law. In those days, individuals in the entertainment industry frequently found themselves in such situations. Why? Because, first and foremost, we often moved during unconventional hours of the night. Whether we were heading to a gig or returning from one, it always happened at odd hours. The challenge arises when they [police] inquire about our destination, and we respond that we are heading to work. That’s where the problem begins—’Which work?’ is always the question. So, you have to halt, disembark, because they will scrutinize you and ask, ‘Which work?’ before instructing you to alight and provide an explanation. Whether you are alone or with a group, the question remains, ‘Which work?'”
Till today, you have production vehicles moving in the middle of the night packed full of crew members or cast, you have to stop and come down and explain yourself. Which work that all of you know each other? And if you don’t have a known face, you’re going to have a big problem.
So on one of those nights, we ended up in jail after we’d been rounded up with gun props. We had gun props in the car so they thought they were guns.”
