Davido recounts how his father had him arrested multiple times
Davido, a well-known Afrobeat singer, recounts how his father Chief Adeji Adeleke had him repeatedly arrested by police in the early stages of his career.
Davido made the announcement during a recent appearance at Hot 97FM in New York City’s Ebro in Morning Show.
The singer, who goes by the nickname ‘Omo Baba Olowo’, explained that his father initially disapproved of his choice to pursue music and instead urged him to prioritize his education.
He said that his father used to send police officers to arrest him and disrupt his performances at different events.
“He sent police to get me like he sees a billboard; for example, ‘Davido performing, Wizkid performing’. He will send police to arrest everybody.”
“So, I can go back to school. He kept on doing it. Then there was one time. This is where I knew that ‘Oh I’m lit!’. They [the police] came and got me.
Then I’m in the cell and the dude that got the keys his phone rings, it’s my song. I said ‘that’s me’. He said ‘you’re Davido?’. I said ‘yes!’. And he let me go.”
