Deyemi Okanlawon vents out as he appreciates fan for going extra mile to curb piracy
Nollywood actor Deyemi Okanlawon recently expressed gratitude to a fan who took a stand against piracy in support of his latest movie.
Deyemi shared a screenshot showing a fan who had initially planned to watch a pirated version of the film due to an inability to afford cinema tickets. Another fan, however, stepped in, discouraging the behavior and generously offering free tickets to five people to watch the movie in theaters.
In response, Deyemi highlighted the challenges faced by Nollywood producers, especially emerging ones like himself and his dedicated team, as they strive to create world-class films with little to no support from the government or financial institutions.
He noted the irony that, despite their efforts to serve Nigerian audiences, many are unaware of the severe damage and financial loss that piracy inflicts on the industry.
Deyemi appreciated the fans who offered tickets for his kindness, love, and support. He stated that his sweet gesture has made him have hope in Nigerians.
“Nollywood producers, especially newbies like myself and my wonderful partners at @bleedingartproduction who try to tell global-level stories, get next to no support from government, financial institutions (forget all that creative industry fund matter), or even industry players, and we end up spending all we have to produce these films. Yet it seems the same Nigerians we love to serve have no idea how much damage and loss their participation in piracy causes our industry.
@iamjoyessien, thank you for understanding and learning, and @l444nnu, thank you so much for your kindness, love, and support; you have no idea how much you’ve renewed my hope in our people! I am forever grateful!”.
