“Divorce made me depressed, turned me into African Bad Girl” – Tiwa Savage
Nigerian music icon Tiwa Savage has shared insights into her 2018 divorce from Tunji ‘TeeBillz’ Balogun, discussing the challenges she faced during and after their separation.
In an episode of The Receipts Podcast, the singer revealed that her ex-husband played a significant role in their split, which occurred while she was dealing with postpartum depression.
The 44-year-old opened up about the harsh criticism she faced, with many Nigerians turning against her and attacking her character. She recalled how prominent figures urged her to stay silent to protect her reputation, even as the emotional toll became overwhelming.
Tiwa also recounted how TeeBillz took their marital issues public, leaving her to endure the brunt of the backlash.
After attempting to share her side of the story, the singer said the criticism worsened. “People said, ‘How dare you go and talk?’ I was told I’d never win because I was a woman. It was heartbreaking.”
