Doris Simeon opens up on emotional toll of custody battle with ex-husband
Nollywood actress Doris Simeon recently opened up about the challenges she faced during a prolonged custody battle with her ex-husband, Daniel Ademinokan.
In a candid interview on Biola Bayo’s show, Talk to B, Simeon shared how the ordeal left her feeling “frustrated and depressed.” She explained that, despite her inner turmoil, her strong family background led her to keep her struggles private.
Simeon recounted that her son was only four years old when Ademinokan moved him to the United States, leaving her role as a mother severely restricted. She added that the last time she truly had the chance to be a mother to her son was when he was just three.
Simeon also described how her attempts to maintain contact were often met with silence. She revealed that Ademinokan would sometimes ignore her calls or respond briefly before becoming “busy,” making it difficult for her to stay connected.
“I might have had my fault, he also had his fault. That’s why I said I didn’t feel anything when they got married, but the only thing is that he didn’t allow me to mother my child. That’s the only painful part.
“He took my son without my consent, he was just 4 years old when he came to the US. He was 3 when I mothered my child last. I was calling, but he wouldn’t pick up, and when he picked up, he would tell me he would call me back as he was busy, and for another 3 to 4 months, I wouldn’t get through.
“I was frustrated and depressed, but I can never show that because I knew the family I came from as my parents told us to be strong, no matter what you’re going through in life. I just went for a movie premiere and someone told me I am not here to see my son. That was how they took us to court”.
