E Jean Carroll to spend $83m defamation award on ‘something Donald Trump hates’
E Jean Carroll intends to allocate a portion of the $83.3 million (£65 million) awarded in her defamation lawsuit against former US President Donald Trump toward something he strongly opposes.
Expressing her initial apprehension about confronting Mr. Trump in court, Carroll admitted that her fear dissipated upon seeing him.
A judge had previously determined that Trump’s remarks defamed Carroll when he dismissed her sexual assault allegation against him as false.
Last year, he was held accountable for sexually abusing Ms. Carroll in the 1990s, although jurors did not support her rape accusation.
Trump has pledged to challenge the verdict, denouncing the trial’s outcome as “utterly absurd.”
In an interview with ABC News on Monday, the 80-year-old Carroll remarked, “I would like to direct the funds toward something that Donald Trump vehemently opposes.”
“If it will cause him pain for me to give money to certain things, that’s my intent.”
The former magazine columnist suggested the money could be used to set up a “fund for the women who have been sexually assaulted by Donald Trump”.
