Ed Sheeran: Fans in Mumbai thrilled as star sings in Punjabi
During his Mumbai concert, Ed Sheeran astonished fans by singing in Punjabi for the very first time, sparking a frenzy on social media.
At the Saturday night event, the British sensation welcomed Indian singer Diljit Dosanjh to join him on stage for a performance.
The audience erupted in excitement as the duo delivered a Punjabi rendition of Dosanjh’s popular track “Lover.”
On Instagram, one fan described it as “the unexpected fusion we never knew we craved.”
Another remarked, “I believe we’ve witnessed history in the making,” while a third praised Sheeran’s flawless Punjabi delivery.
Following the electrifying performance, both artists shared a clip on their Instagram profiles.
In his post, Sheeran wrote, “Had the pleasure of collaborating with Diljit Dosanjh tonight in Mumbai and singing in Punjabi for the first time. India has been an amazing experience, and there’s more to come!”
Meanwhile, Dosanjh captioned the video, “Brother singing in Punjabi for the first time.”
Celebrities chimed in with excitement in the comments, with actor Varun Dhawan succinctly stating, “Global domination.”
Dosanjh, 40, is a huge star with fans in India and around the world.
It’s not the first time he’s paired up with a Western star in Punjabi. Last year, he dropped a song called Hass Hass, which he worked on in collaboration with Cheap Thrills singer Sia.
Fans were quick to heap praise on Dosanjh for getting another big name to sing in the Indian language.
“First Sia, now Ed, Diljit gonna make everyone sing in Punjabi,” wrote one on Instagram.
“Hats off to Diljit,” wrote another. “This man has literally blow up Punjabi music scene making other artists [sing] in Punjabi.”
Sheeran is one of the biggest stars on the planet, with multiple hits under his belt. He released his latest album Autumn Variations last September.
His Mumbai concert was part of his Asia and Europe Tour.
