Fireboy shares how he tried to copy Beyoncé’s style but failed
Nigerian artist Fireboy, DML, revealed his past attempt to emulate the stage presence of American pop icon Beyoncé, which ultimately fell short. He admitted his struggle to match the prowess of the multiple Grammy-winning artist.
Fireboy acknowledged his shortcomings and shared his commitment to personal growth as an artist. He expressed his vision of performing in front of large audiences and how it drives his creative process, particularly when composing emotionally charged songs.
In a recent interview with RollingStone, he reflected, “From the beginning, even as I penned my most melancholic tunes, I envisioned myself captivating crowds of millions. The stage has always been a part of my creative journey.”
“So taking that energy from the studio to the stage is a piece of cake for me. What matters to me is making sure that I have fun. When I enjoyed myself, everyone else enjoyed themselves. Step by step, I learned from the greats, I studied; and did artist development stuff like vocal training.
“There was a time I tried to copy Beyonce’s routine. But I didn’t last two days.”
