A group under the auspices of Adamawa State chapter of the National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO), at the end of its 3rd annual seminar has resolved, with recourse to the issues bedevilling the north, to among other things, pursue wealth creation and provide job opportunities for members of Islamic Youth organisations through agri-business.
In a communique signed by the association’s chairman, Barr. Bashiru Hamidu Aminu and secretary, Engr. Tasiu Idi, the association further stated that the move was in line with the policy thrust of the current Buhari administration in collaboration the Central Bank of Nigeria, JAIZ Bank and Standard Micro-Finance Bank (Non-Interest Banking).
At the end of the seminar, the association produced a 10 point recommendation geared towards developing a framework which will see to the socio-economic development of the Muslim Umma in Adamawa State.
The recommendations read in part: “Adamawa State Government should establish an agency on religious affairs and appoint an adviser on Islamic affairs and also encourage all local governments to do the same, Government should also provide moral and financial support to Zakat and all forms of endowments that contributes to social welfare of its citizens.
‘‘ The Lamido of Adamawa should support and encourage the formulation of committee of trusted members of the society to spearhead the establishment of the institution of Zakat and Waqf at all levels of the traditional institution.
‘‘The Muslim Council should re-activate its zakat committee for the mobilization, collection and distribution of Zakat and Waqf. The Muslim Council should also constitute an enlightenment committee involving all Imams of Jum’ah Masjids and Islamic scholars on the institution of Zakat and Waqf.
‘‘Organisations and Masjids are also advised to seek information from wealth creation agencies of government and take advantage of special grants for its members and Muslim Youths should shun idleness and take advantage of government policies, programmes and windows of opportunities provided for their empowerment.’’ Muslim organisations are called upon to establish data bank for widows, single ladies and orphans for special consideration on Zakat and endowments., NACOMYO should make available to all Imams of Jum’ah Masjids in Adamawa pamphlets and fliers from SMEDAN, NIRSAL, Poverty Alleviation and Wealth Creation office of the Adamawa State Government etc to enlighten the Muslim Umma on existing possibilities and opportunities, Governments, Organisations, Philanthropist and Individuals to support the education of the underprivileged in the society with scholarship grants.
