Health Benefits Of Having Lime

Sweet lime is a good fruit which can be enjoyed both in the form of juice or whole. The best time to get it is after a morning jog, yoga session, or a very long walk as it functions as a wonderful thirst quencher. Though this fruit may look very much like lemons, it has a different taste completely and contains a minimal citrus acid content when compared with lemons. Below are  few advantages of getting lime on health.

  1. It is low in calories: As sweet lime is low in calories, it’s the best ingredient for a low fat diet. To give you an idea, if you serve about 3.5 Oz of sweet lime, then it will only add 43 calories to your meal. Carbohydrates form the major portion of these calories. It’s also low in protein content so you might need to add a protein element to your daily diet, alongside the sweet lime. For all these reasons, sweet lime is a good alternative for weight watchers and physical fitness freaks as it can help you shed some additional flab.

2. It is rich in minerals: Sweet limes are highly rich in minerals. They boast a high potassium content of about 490 mg in a single serving. Other than potassium, sweet limes also give you copper, calcium, iron and phosphorus. All these minerals have several health benefits.

3. It helps in digestion: Sweet limes possess flavanoids which promote the production of acids, bile, and digestive juices. This further assists in the correct operation of the digestive tract. By neutralizing the acidic digestive juices, sweet limes assist in flushing out the toxins. Taking sweet lime will also soothe your stomach if you’re suffering from vomiting, nausea, or diarrhea.
