“How God used Dbanj to speak to me to keep the Jenifa brand” – Funke Akindele recounts
Nollywood actress Funke Akindele has shared how singer Dbanj inspired her to continue developing her popular Jenifa brand.
Speaking at the singer’s 20th anniversary in the entertainment industry, the award-winning actress revealed that Dbanj encouraged her to keep the brand thriving.
She recounted meeting Dbanj for the first time at a club, where he asked if she was working on more installments of Jenifa, which he admired. When she said no, the singer, surprised, emphasized the brand’s potential and urged her to continue capitalizing on it.
To support her, Dbanj even gave her money to develop more sequences, leading to the creation of “The Return of Jenifa.”
“After the big break with Jenifa, everybody loved Jenifa so much, I was out there and everyone was celebrating me so much.
I was invited to a club where I met Dbanj for the first time and he gave me his number and inquired if there was a sequence to Jenifa, I told him No and he questioned why as he noted how Jenifa is a brand I could feast on for the rest of my life.
He told me that when I have a brand, you feed on the brand, you milk the brand very well and make money out of it.
Out of his pocket, he gave me money and said I should go write another Jenifa and he supports me with the money”.
The movie star further praised him for being a movement as she noted how he is more than just a musician. Funke further noted how his music has brought joy to people’s hearts and his legacy will live on forever.
