How I became a transgender – Bobrisky opens up
Renowned Nigerian figure of controversy, Idris Okuneye, commonly known as Bobrisky, has opened up about the genesis of his journey into crossdressing.
In a recent conversation with Charly Boy, Bobrisky shared a pivotal moment in his life where he realized his inclination towards transgender identity.
He recounted how his introduction to crossdressing originated as a shrewd business strategy during his time as a student at the University of Lagos, where he sold unisex apparel.
What initially seemed like a simple entrepreneurial decision gradually evolved into a transformative exploration of his identity.
Despite initial reservations from his parents, Bobrisky eventually found the courage to authentically embrace his true self, crediting his parents for their eventual support in enabling him to express his identity freely and live authentically.
In his words:
“About nine years ago, I was at the University of Lagos studying Accounting. I also had a side hustle, I was selling unisex clothes. Most times I try the female wears on myself and I love the outfits.
“From there, I moved to female hairstyles to makeup and more women were patronizing my business. So I decided to keep crossdressing since it was lucrative.
“I wasn’t thinking I was going to do it for a very long time. Initially, it was just a marketing strategy but people were complimenting me that I look better as a woman than a man. That’s how I ended up being Bobrisky.”
