“I didn’t know we were rich till I was 13” – Davido
Nigerian-American artist David Adedeji Adeleke, professionally known as Davido, shared in a statement that he only became aware of his family’s wealth when he reached the age of 13.
In an exclusive conversation, he opened up about his upbringing and discussed his father, noting, “Despite all the talk about wealth, my dad is highly disciplined. He has a unique approach; you can see that he’s a man of great discipline.”
“I didn’t realize we were affluent until I turned 13. Even though he’s a billionaire, my dad drove a Honda Accord, I can assure you.”
Davido went on to describe the moment he discovered his father’s financial standing, stating, “Let me recount how I found out. There was an incident in Nigeria, in our neighborhood. A mistake occurred, like a bomb blast, and numerous houses were destroyed.”
“Our first house, from my birth until around age 11, was a big compound with a bungalow. When that incident occurred, we had to leave immediately because the house got so messed up.”
