“I used to earn N50K out of N2M, D’banj’s mum make decisions” – Ikechukwu recounts life at Mohits Records
Prominent Nigerian rapper and actor, Ikechukwu Onunaku, recently delved into his experiences with record label mogul D’banj during his time at MoHits Records.
The celebrated musician made an appearance as a guest on media personality Daddy Freeze’s Instagram live show, where he shared his candid reflections.
Ikechukwu disclosed that despite being booked for performances and having his earnings handed over to D’banj, he would only receive a meager N50k as if it were a favor.
He went on to reveal that despite securing lucrative gigs valued between N1 million and N2 million, he would only receive a small fraction of the payment.
The rapper, now transitioning into acting, further revealed that his compensation was eventually increased to N150,000 following a review initiated by D’banj’s mother.
“When we used to go on the road, dem go pay Banga money, Banga go do like say e dey do me favour, him go give me N50k, back then I used to book like N1.5m, N1m, N2m. He increased it one time after we don fight, he increase am say ‘e talk to mummy, we go increase am to N150k,” he stated.
On decision-making, Ikechukwu continued, “Mummy is Dbanj’s mum, she was part of the record label spiritually. Ask Don Jazzy, dem no dey make decisions without momsi giving the okay for a very long time.”
