I was dragged while growing up because of my voice – Tems
Tems, the Grammy-winning Nigerian singer, shared in an interview with The Cut, the challenges she faced due to the timbre of her voice.
She revealed that she refrained from speaking until the age of three and experienced self-consciousness as her voice differed from that of other girls.
“I encountered bullying that brought me to tears, becoming a subject of mockery. People believed my voice resembled that of a boy or a frog, perceiving it as unattractive,” she recounted.
Growing up, Tems found herself isolated in her world. When she attempted to make friends, she would encourage them to sing her songs, but her voice, with its deeper tone, stood in contrast to the sweet, high voices of other girls.
Recall that the songstress had previously stated that she started making music because she doesn’t have friends.
