Renowned Nollywood figure Anayo Modestus Onyekwere, commonly identified as Kanayo Kanayo, has conveyed a significant message to fellow filmmakers within the industry who flock to the prominent streaming platform, YouTube.
Kanayo Kanayo has criticized his peers for undermining the foundational values of the movie sector by producing substandard content solely for monetary gain on the platform.
The veteran actor also denounced individuals who lack sufficient filmmaking expertise yet establish profit-oriented video channels on the platform, subsequently neglecting their colleagues. He asserted that such actions undermine the industry’s core principles.
Kanayo urged filmmakers to collaborate, emphasizing that although YouTube offers ample space for diverse talents, cohesion within the community is paramount.
Additionally, he cautioned about the long-term viability of the YouTube platform in Nigeria, suggesting it might face regulatory restrictions in the future.
It’s worth recalling that Kanayo Kanayo recently imparted valuable advice to his peers via his social media platform, where he critiqued certain common tropes in Nollywood productions.
The actor encouraged filmmakers to diversify their portrayal of wealthy characters, moving away from the cliché of a rich man attired in agbada or Senegalese regalia, and instead opting for more relatable attire.
The actor had also spoken about his night sacrifices in movies that have now become a social media meme.
In a short clip that captured his chat with Chude Jideonwo, Kanayo Kanayo disclosed that he is not involved in any sacrifice and that the only thing he knows is Jesus.
The veteran actor who is one of the highly respected Nollywood actors claimed he will continue with the night sacrifices as long as they put money in his account.
