Kanayo O. Kanayo fumes over ‘money rituals’ ban in Nollywood
Veteran Nollywood actor Kanayo O. Kanayo joins other prominent figures in Nigeria’s movie industry in vehemently opposing the government’s new restrictions on portrayals of rituals in films, music videos, and skits.
This follows the Minister of Arts, Culture, and the Creative Economy, Hannatu Musawa, approving the prohibition of money rituals, ritual killings, and the promotion and glamorization of tobacco and nicotine products in movies, music videos, and skits under section 65 of the NFVCB Act 2004.
In response, Kanayo criticized the policy as “arrant nonsense,” questioning the rationale behind Barrister Hannatu Musa Musawa’s endorsement of such constraints on filmmakers.
In his words, “Arrant nonsense. This minister has no work, just like lair Mohammed.”
