Kate returns to public events at Trooping the Colour
Catherine, Princess of Wales, made her highly anticipated first public appearance of the year at the annual Trooping the Colour parade. Despite undergoing cancer treatment, she appeared on the Buckingham Palace balcony, smiling and waving after a ceremony filled with grandeur and tradition.
King Charles III, also undergoing cancer treatment, opted to travel in a carriage instead of on horseback during the event. Despite heavy rain, thousands eagerly awaited one of the most significant events in the royal calendar.
Cheers erupted from the crowd as Catherine and the King made their way from Buckingham Palace to Horse Guards Parade. The procession of carriages was surrounded by a sea of mobile phones as spectators tried to capture glimpses of the royals through the windows.
Catherine was photographed smiling alongside her children Prince George, Prince Louis, and Princess Charlotte, with six-year-old Louis even waving to the crowd. This ceremonial event, marking the King’s official birthday, has been a tradition for over 260 years.
This appearance marked Catherine’s first since Christmas, following her announcement in March that she was undergoing chemotherapy. In a statement released recently, she acknowledged her ongoing battle with cancer, stating she had “good days and bad days” but expressed her excitement about attending the King’s birthday parade with her family.
Unlike previous years, Catherine observed the ceremony from a balcony with her children, a departure from joining other senior royals on a dais.
Louis danced to a march by the Scots Guards, and was spotted yawning while watching the parade.
His sister, Charlotte, was seen wiping steam off their carriage’s windows, as they made their way back to Buckingham Palace.
