Lagos driver forgets where he parked vehicle after getting drunk
Officials from Lagos Rapid Response Squad (RRS), have recovered a 2014 Nissan Altima car that was left behind by a drunk driver on Allen Avenue, Ikeja Lagos, since Saturday night.
After getting drunk at Fela’s Shrine Saturday night, July 30, 43-year-old Samuel Lawal, the driver of the vehicle, abandoned it at Allen Avenue.
Preliminary investigations showed that Lawal, after having dropped his boss (name withheld at Magodo Phase 1), used the car to party around Fela Shrine and Ikeja.
The suspect also claimed that he woke up Sunday morning with his car keys in his pocket, not knowing where he had parked it.
His statement to the police stated that he tried to find the car. I tried to find the car again by tracing my steps back to African Shrine. I tried every possible method to retrieve the vehicle but was unsuccessful. “I had no choice but to tell my boss I was robbed, and that the vehicle had been stolen.”
The vehicle’s owner (name withheld) said that Lawal was his recruit about four months back, but that he has never been dishonest or shady. He also stated that Lawal had been a hardworking driver.
After the driver was unreachable on Sunday, the boss became puzzled and decided to inform RRS.
The driver was picked up for questioning and the vehicle was traced to Allen Avenue where it was recovered with all the side glasses wound down with a bottle of dry gin beside the driver’s seat.
The driver and vehicle have been released.
