Lara Trump withdraws name from consideration for US Senate
Lara Trump, daughter-in-law of US President-elect Donald Trump, has withdrawn her candidacy for a Senate seat.
Earlier this month, she stepped down as co-chairwoman of the Republican National Committee (RNC), sparking speculation that she might succeed outgoing Senator Marco Rubio, a Florida Republican nominated by Donald Trump for secretary of state.
However, in a post on X, Lara Trump announced she had decided against pursuing the Senate seat “after an incredible amount of thought, contemplation, and encouragement from so many.”
She expressed her support for Florida Governor Ron DeSantis in selecting a replacement to complete Rubio’s six-year term, which concludes in 2026.
In her Saturday post, she reflected on her RNC tenure, stating: “I could not have been more honoured to serve as RNC co-chair during the most high-stakes election of our lifetime. I am truly humbled by the overwhelming support I’ve received from people across the country, especially here in Florida.”
Lara Trump also hinted at a significant announcement coming in January but provided no further details.
Elected as RNC co-chair in March, Lara Trump played a key role in reinforcing her father-in-law’s influence over the Republican Party during his presidential campaign. Alongside her husband Eric Trump and his brother Don Jr., she became a prominent surrogate for Donald Trump in the lead-up to the election.
