Mandisa: American Idol singer dies aged 47
Condolences are pouring in following the passing of Mandisa Lynn Hundley, the Grammy-winning American Idol sensation, at the age of 47.
Paula Abdul, who served as a judge during Mandisa’s memorable Idol season in 2006, fondly described her as a “true beacon of light” in a statement to People magazine.
Danny Gokey, another notable Idol alum, expressed his profound sorrow on X (formerly Twitter), stating that he was “devastated” by the news.
Mandisa’s publicist confirmed to the PA news agency that she was discovered deceased in her residence on Thursday.
“At present, the cause of death and further details remain unknown,” they further conveyed.
“We humbly request your prayers for her family and tight-knit circle of friends during this exceedingly challenging period.”
Recognized by her moniker Mandisa, the talented artist clinched a Grammy award in the best contemporary Christian music category for her acclaimed album “Overcomer” in 2014.
Though she rose to fame through her participation in season five of American Idol in 2006, finishing in ninth place, Mandisa’s journey continued with remarkable success as she established herself in the realm of Christian music.
Her records including 2011’s What If We Were Real, 2009’s Freedom, and 2007’s True Beauty also received Grammy nominations.
Mandisa had spoken candidly about her depression and grief in her memoir in 2022, Out of the Dark: My Journey Through The Shadows To Find God’s Joy.
An Instagram statement on her page said: “Mandisa was a voice of encouragement and truth to people facing life’s challenges all around the world.”
