Mercy Eke laments Heritage bank’s shutdown, reveals she has millions in her account
Nigerian reality star Mercy Eke took to social media to express her distress over the imminent closure of Heritage Bank, revealing that she has over N100 million deposited with them.
Recently, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) announced its decision to revoke Heritage Bank’s banking license. This decision followed reports that the bank had been facing financial struggles and dealing with numerous bad loans for over five years.
The CBN, led by Yemi Cardoso, finally decided to revoke Heritage Bank’s license.
Mercy Eke, who holds an account with the bank, disclosed that she had heard about the bank’s issues earlier but was reluctant to accept the reality. She mentioned that during her time on Big Brother Nigeria, contestants were advised to open accounts with Heritage Bank to receive their winnings. Unaware of the bank’s financial troubles, she subsequently deposited some of her savings there.
While the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has assured customers with less than N5 million that they will receive their funds within a week, those with larger amounts will have to wait until the bank’s assets are liquidated.
