My Pastor Dad made me ”hate” God – Spyro
During his conversation with Emmanuel Taymesan on the Tea with Tay Podcast, Spyro recounted his upbringing in Mushin, residing under the guidance of his father, who was a pastor.
Reflecting on his father’s strict parenting style, the singer discussed the difficulties he encountered as a result of the stringent religious regulations and anticipations.
He also shared that despite being raised in a pastor’s household, he did not encounter a genuine connection with Christ through his father.
Spyro remarked, “My father was quite rigid, being a pastor, you know how pastors tend to be with their children. They adhere strictly because of the belief that their children are the ones that…,” with Taymesan interjecting, “We’re the ones who get spoiled the most,” to which Spyro nodded in agreement.
Further, Spyro added, “The pressure was not healthy, I must admit. However, I never truly discovered God through my father, despite being surrounded by the Bible. Every morning, we’d wake up to the Bible, but I felt compelled to do so, which hindered my understanding of God’s essence. My father’s approach made me resent God’s persona.
Despite growing up with a negative perception of religion due to his father’s ministry, Spyro revealed that he has since found a genuine appreciation for religion on his terms.
