Nigerian lady sentenced to jail for defaming Eniola Badmus
Blessing Okoye Nwakaego, a Nigerian woman, has been handed a three-year prison sentence for defaming actress Eniola Badmus on social media.
She had accused the actress of being involved in facilitating illicit activities, alleging that she acted as a go-between, connecting young women with politicians for a fee.
When confronted, Okoye admitted to accusing pressure from her friend, Fortune Ibe, who is currently evading arrest.
Ibe had promised Okoye ₦200,000, and given her urgent financial situation, she agreed to record the video.
The ruling was delivered by Justice Nicholas Oweibo of the Federal High Court in Lagos on Wednesday.
Okoye was convicted after she pleaded guilty to a two-count charge of cyberstalking.
However, since she showed remorse for her actions, she was given an option of paying a fine of N150,000 in lieu of jail time.
