OAP Dotun’s ex-wife and Dbanj’s sister, Taiwo found guilty of contempt, risk jail term
The relationship between the well-known radio personality, Dotun Kayode, and his former wife, Taiwo Oyebanjo, who is also the sister of the famous pop star Dapo “D’Banj” Oyebanjo, has further deteriorated. Today, Taiwo Oyebanjo was found in contempt of court due to her actions in a divorce case she initiated in Abuja.
A high court in Dukpa, Abuja, has ruled that Taiwo Oyebanjo violated the court’s order regarding the shared custody of their children, making her liable for contempt of court.
In a previous case (Suit No. GWD/PET/25/21), the court had granted shared custody of the children to Dotun and his estranged wife after Dotun applied for it in April 2022, and both parties initially adhered to the court’s decision.
However, Taiwo Oyebanjo defied the court’s order by denying her estranged husband access to their children without a valid reason since December 2022. This led Dotun to seek legal remedies, sparking a public and heated exchange between the couple on social media in recent times.
Delivering the judgment in the Contempt proceedings against Taiwo Oyebanjo, the court ruled and found Taiwo guilty of disobeying the order of the Court, declaring that her refusal to allow Dotun Kayode access and custody of the Children in December 2022 was disobedience to the Order of the Court and ordered that she pays the sum of N200,000 within 30days or risk jail term until the fine is paid.
We gathered that a mild drama almost ensued after the judgment against Dotun’s estranged wife was delivered as her lawyers attempted to withdraw their representation on her behalf but the matter was adjourned to 11th December for Trial.
Reports reaching us suggest that the Contemnor, Taiwo who was absent in court, may have allegedly flown the children out of Nigeria since June 2023. This calls to question the regard by Nigerians to abide by the orders of the courts of the Land. We will continue to monitor developments in the case and report as they arise.
