One in four Eurostar trains cancelled after arson attacks
A quarter of all Eurostar trains will be cancelled on Friday and over the weekend due to arson attacks causing disruptions ahead of the Olympics in France. The rail operator, which provides international services from London St Pancras, stated that the cancellations are a result of “coordinated” vandalism on other high-speed lines, advising customers to cancel their trips if possible.
The disruption coincides with travelers heading to the opening ceremony of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games, as well as millions embarking on summer vacations. French rail company SNCF reported a series of overnight incidents impacting travel to and from London and Belgium, as well as across northern, eastern, and western France.
French Transport Minister Patrice Vergriete informed broadcasters that incendiary devices had been discovered and people had fled from the fires.
Three fires were reported near the tracks of the French Atlantique, Nord and Est high-speed lines.
