Police raid home of singer accused of not paying for enormous TV
Law enforcement authorities conducted a raid on a Florida mansion suspected to be the dwelling of Sean Kingston.
The singer, also known as Kisean Anderson, was identified as residing in the vicinity of Fort Lauderdale according to court papers from February.
Allegations surfaced in February accusing him of failing to fully compensate a company for a large television and sound system.
An individual presumed to be his mother was apprehended at the premises on Thursday morning on charges related to fraud and theft. The Broward Sheriff’s Office confirmed executing arrest and search warrants at the location.
According to their statement to the BBC, an adult female, Janice Turner, born on February 16, 1963, was arrested on various charges of fraud and theft. The investigation remains active.
It remains uncertain whether Sean Kingston was present at the property during the time of the arrest, or if the arrest is connected to the company’s accusations. Sean Kingston seemed to address the situation via his Instagram account, reassuring followers about his and his mother’s well-being and indicating that his legal team is handling matters.
The BBC has reached out to Sean Kingston and his mother, known as Mama Kingston on Instagram, for further comment.
In court documents seen by the BBC, Ver Ver Entertainment claims Mr Kingston contacted the company over social media in September 2023 to purchase a “232-inch Colossal TV, coupled with a robust sound system.”
The company claims Mr. Kingston “induced” the business to install the products with “as small a down payment as possible” by making “numerous false representations”, including a suggestion that he would create promotional videos for the company with Justin Bieber.
Following the installation, the company says Mr Kingston failed to make the remaining payments and sued him for breach of contract and fraud.
A lawyer representing Ver Ver Entertainment told Miami’s Local 10 news that the company was hoping to retrieve it from the house following the police raid.
“We know that our property is inside this house right here, so as soon as the raid takes place we are going to have a crew of people in there to reassemble it and take it back to its rightful owner.”
Mr. Kingston, 34, is known for hits such as “Beautiful Girls”, “Fire Burning”, and “Eenie Meenie” featuring Justin Bieber.
