Prince Harry to visit King Charles in the coming days
The Duke of Sussex is set to journey to the UK for a visit with King Charles “shortly” following Buckingham Palace’s announcement of the monarch’s cancer diagnosis, according to information obtained by the BBC.
A spokesperson representing Prince Harry conveyed that he had conversed with his father regarding the diagnosis.
After relinquishing their roles as senior royals in 2020, the duke and his wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, relocated to the US.
Since then, Prince Harry’s rapport with certain other members of the royal family has become strained.
The spokesperson indicated that Meghan would stay in the US with their two children.
The duke’s most recent public appearance at a royal event occurred in May during the King’s Coronation, where he made a brief appearance, departing immediately after the ceremony at Westminster Abbey.
According to the BBC’s understanding, he was not extended an invitation to join others on the Buckingham Palace balcony following the ceremony.
At that time, a source informed US media outlet Page Six that Prince Harry aimed to return in time for his son Archie’s birthday, which coincided with the day of the ceremony.
More recently, the duke traveled to the UK to attend libel cases concerning UK newspapers.
Prince Harry and Meghan have publicly addressed their experiences within the Royal Family, along with their disagreements with certain members, through various mediums including his memoir “Spare”, an interview with Oprah Winfrey, and a Netflix documentary.
During his interview with Winfrey, the prince disclosed that King Charles ceased communicating with him when he attempted to discuss stepping down from his royal duties.
Prince Harry also recalled that the King had pleaded with his sons, “Please, boys. Don’t make my final years a misery” following the funeral of the King’s father, Prince Philip.
But while they have had their differences, the King and prince have continued to have a relationship with the duke, calling his father on his 75th birthday last year.
The King called Prince Harry to tell him the news of his health, the palace said.
He also told the Prince of Wales, heir to the throne, as well as the King’s siblings: the Princess Royal, Princess Anne; the Duke of York, Prince Andrew; and the Duke of Edinburgh, Prince Edward.
