Rita Edochie fumes as she reacts to death rumors about Osita Iheme ‘Pawpaw’
Veteran Nollywood actress Rita Edochie has responded to the recent false death rumors about her colleague, Osita Iheme, popularly known as Pawpaw.
In a detailed post on her Instagram, she shared that she had come across news of the actor’s death on two separate occasions. To her surprise, many social media users believed the fake reports and were mourning him in the comment sections.
Rita expressed concern over the growing trend of false death reports targeting actors, mentioning how a similar rumor had been spread about her, with a photo of her on a movie set being used to fuel the claim. The sister-in-law of veteran actor Pete Edochie emphasized that while social media has been a valuable tool for empowering many Nigerian youths, it has also caused significant harm to society.
Calling such behavior madness, Rita stated that one doesn’t need to grow pages through death wishes on innocent people.
“If one blogger and one hungry social media content creator haven’t been mercilessly dealt with, the rest won’t learn.
I as a person, think this is gradually going beyond control. This is not the first, neither the second Nor the third, it has become a recurring media practice by so-called bloggers and content creators, my question is this, why, in the name of God, would you wish untimely death on someone especially the Nigerian celebrities, simply because you feel we are famous and can fetch you the traffic, engagements, and funds that you don’t deserve.
This rumor has come up before. A couple of days ago, it came up for the second time, pictures of my great son and veteran colleague, Osita Iheme popularly known as Paw_paw trended everywhere on social media with captions that they were dead. Crãzy netizens believed the fake gist and began commenting RIP on themselves.
I have said it before, and I’m saying it again: social media has literally done more harm than good to society. It has also been a constant source of enrichment for most Nigerian youths in the country, but the abuse is getting out of hand.
