Six people arrested for pirating Toyin Abraham’s movie, Malaika
Yesterday, six individuals faced charges in the Igbosere Chiefs Magistrate’s Court for allegedly pirating Toyin Abraham’s film “Malaika.”
Attorneys from the Force Criminal Investigation Department (ForceCID) Annex Alagbon-Ikoyi Lagos brought forth the defendants:
Kehinde Oseni, Adekunle Segun, Adebiyi Sodiq, Oseni S. Akano, Mrs. Agboola Motunrayo, and Mrs. Adebiyi Suliat, before Chief Magistrate E. Ogunkanmi.
They stand accused of infringing upon intellectual property rights, conspiring, and attempting to obstruct justice. Prosecutor Morufu Animashaun informed the court that the defendants allegedly orchestrated the illicit activities in January within Apapa, with the intention of evading arrest.
According to Animashaun, the defendants purportedly violated sections 411, 972, 415, and 87 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015, which carry penalties as prescribed by law.
All the defendants pleaded not guilty to the charges.
Animashaun asked the court to remand them to the Correctional Center until the outcome of the charge after they entered a not guilty plea.
However, Ganiyu Oyarevuegbe, their attorney, requested their bail orally and in the most permissive terms.
