“Social media ended oppression in the Nigerian music industry” – Danny Young
Nigerian singer Ajibola Danladi, popularly known as Danny Young, has shared his thoughts on how social media has transformed the music industry.
During a recent podcast, he explained that social media has democratized the industry by diminishing the influence previously held by powerful gatekeepers.
Young highlighted how platforms now allow artists to freely express themselves without fear of judgment, and instead, receive support from online communities. He also credited Generation Z for playing a role in this shift, noting that they are known for embracing freedom and self-expression.
In his words:
“The good thing is that social media came to expose many of them because it gave people the opportunity to express themselves. That is what led to the emergence of what we call Gen Z.
“My definition of Gen Z is freedom of speech, freedom of rights, and freedom of expression.”
