“Speaking Yoruba is draining, sometimes it irks my nerves” — Adunni Ade says as she urges Nigerians to speak only English
Adunni Ade, a Yoruba actress, has sparked controversy by expressing her discomfort with speaking Yoruba, a stance that has left many people upset.
During an interview with Channels Television, the actress, who is of mixed heritage with a German-American mother and a Nigerian father, politely declined the host’s request to speak her native language.
She explained that she prefers to communicate in English, emphasizing that it is the recognized language in Nigeria. Adunni urged everyone to adopt English as the primary language of communication.
She shared that speaking in Yoruba makes her uncomfortable, citing instances where people have rudely insisted she speak her native tongue.
Acknowledging the surprise many express when they learn she can speak Yoruba due to her appearance, Adunni admitted the misconception surrounding her linguistic abilities.
Adunni Ade also appreciated her dad for bringing her down to Nigeria to learn the Yoruba culture and traditions.
