Suspected kidnappers kill three police officers in Rivers state, abduct managing director of oil company
Three police officers who were serving as escorts for the managing director of an Obio/Akpor Local Government Area in Rivers State’s Rumuokoro region of Obio/Akpor on Thursday, November 24, were allegedly killed by suspected kidnappers.
The suspect kidnappers opened fire on the convoy of the managing director, killing his police officers escorts and then abducting him. The police officers were in a Hilux vehicle when their attackers opened fire.
Eyewitnesses claim that the gunmen blocked the vehicle where the top oil worker was before shooting at the other vehicle which carried the dead police officers.
Grace Iringe Kooko, spokesperson for the State Police Command confirmed the incident and said that an investigation was underway.
“Yes, it is true that three policemen were killed. It is very unfortunate. They were providing escort for the oil company workers when the incident happened. But we are on it and an investigation has been launched immediately into the incident with a view to apprehending the suspects,” she said
