The boy who smashed the ancient Bronze Age jar returns to the museum
Ariel Geller’s family was invited for a guided tour of Haifa’s Hecht Museum in Israel just days after their four-year-old accidentally broke a rare 3,500-year-old jar on display at the museum.
The museum informed the BBC that the jar, dating back to the Bronze Age between 2200 and 1500 BCE, was a rare artifact because of its well-preserved condition.
This jar was among the artifacts displayed without protective barriers, reflecting the museum’s philosophy of allowing visitors to engage closely with history.
The jar was likely used to carry local goods, such as wine and olive oil, and dates back to a time before the reigns of Biblical figures King David and King Solomon. It is typical of the Canaan region along the eastern Mediterranean coast.
