Ukraine-Russia war: missiles kill 11, including children, Ukrainian official say
A local official reports that a Russian missile strike in eastern Ukraine resulted in the tragic death of 11 individuals, including five children. The S-300 missiles struck the town of Pokrovsk, located in Ukrainian-held territory within the Donetsk region, as stated by the regional governor.
Governor Vadim Filashkin expressed outrage on Telegram, accusing the enemy of callously targeting civilians in an attempt to inflict maximum suffering.
President Volodymyr Zelensky, in his evening video address, asserted that Russian forces had deliberately aimed at residential areas. Zelensky emphasized the need for Russia to face consequences for such attacks.
As of now, Russia has not issued any official comments on the incident. Pokrovsk, situated approximately 70km (43 miles) northwest of Donetsk city under Russian occupation, had a pre-war population of around 60,000 people.
Despite official warnings about the dangers, some residents have been returning to the area.
In August, at least nine people were killed and dozens more injured in a Russian missile attack on the town.
Earlier this week Ukrainian forces launched more than 70 drones across the border into Russia after Moscow launched its biggest aerial bombardment. This led to evacuations in the southwestern city of Belgorod.
