US Army sergeant arrested in Russia accused of theft
According to reports from CBS, a US Army soldier stationed in South Korea has been detained in Russia, accused of theft from a woman. Staff Sgt Gordon Black was apprehended on May 2nd in Vladivostok, Russia’s Far East, while not on official travel.
John Kirby, a spokesperson for the National Security Council, informed the press that the US is aware of the situation but refrained from giving further details during a White House briefing on Monday.
The soldier, as per a statement from the US Army, is facing charges of criminal misconduct. Cynthia Smith, a spokeswoman, stated that the soldier’s family has been notified, and the US Department of State is offering the necessary consular assistance.
The soldier had been in the process of changing duty stations from South Korea back to Fort Cavazos in the US state of Texas, according to CBS.
