Veekee James offers advice to fellow designers amidst the AMVCA outfit controversy
Amid the ongoing debate surrounding Nana Akua’s attire at the AMVCA, esteemed fashion designer Veekee James has stepped forward to offer counsel to her colleagues.
You may recall the recent dispute involving Nana Akua Addo, a prominent figure in Ghanaian fashion, who was accused by Nigerian designer Ezinne Olivia of failing to credit her for designing her AMVCA ensemble.
In response, Nana Akua’s legal team sent a cease and desist letter to Olivia.
In response to this situation, Veekee James shared her insights, albeit acknowledging that she wasn’t fully briefed on the controversy’s specifics.
She advised fellow designers and stylists to exercise caution when encountering clients who inquire, “Do you prefer payment or acknowledgment?” stressing the importance of prioritizing financial compensation over mere recognition.
James, the designer behind Osas Ighodaro’s AMVCA attire, further urged designers to steer clear of pursuing fame at any cost, emphasizing the significance of financial transactions and grasping the authentic essence of being a designer.
She proudly stated that her success is a result of divine grace, not owing her achievements to any individual.
