Yemi Alade reveals why she doesn’t get awards for her hard work
Yemi Alade, the renowned musician, has elucidated the rationale behind her lack of awards despite her significant success and acclaim in the industry.
The songstress disclosed that her infrequent award wins in Nigeria can be attributed to her refusal to acquiesce to organizers’ demands for sexual favors.
In an interview with WithinNigeria, the ‘Johnny’ singer candidly revealed that numerous entertainment figures had previously propositioned her for sex, promising enhanced opportunities in return.
She asserted her steadfastness in declining such offers, emphasizing that she maintains her dignity and a loyal fan base.
Alade expressed her lack of remorse in rejecting these advances, asserting, “There was a time in the industry when everyone wanted to sleep with me, and it was like, ‘Yemi if you don’t do this, you won’t have that.’ Today, men are the reason I don’t win awards in Nigeria.”
“Going down with men was like a bridge I had to cross to get on some platforms, get some deals, and even awards. When I made my decision never to engage in sexual activities for gains, lots of opportunities were automatically blocked for me.”
