Lisabi Part 2 not affected by ‘Netflix leaving Nigeria’ – Adedimeji Lateef
Nollywood actor Adedimeji Lateef has assured fans that his relationship with Netflix remains strong, revealing that the second part of his movie Lisabi is set to premiere on the streaming platform in January 2025.
On Wednesday, Nigerians were stunned by reports suggesting Netflix was exiting the country. The rumors began after renowned Nollywood director Kunle Afolayan disclosed that the platform had stopped funding projects by Nigerian filmmakers.
Speaking at the 2024 Zuma Film Festival, Afolayan explained that his project, Anikulapo: The Rise of the Spectre, avoided the funding cut since filming for its additional two seasons—already greenlit by Netflix—had been completed. However, he noted that other directors in the middle of Netflix-backed projects were now stranded due to the abrupt decision.
Following Afolayan’s statement, Netflix clarified to the media that they were not leaving Nigeria but did not directly address the claims about funding. The platform stated it would continue to support Nigerian storytelling, though it remained vague about the nature of that support.
Since the news emerged, fans of local content have expressed concerns about the future of their favorite shows, including Lisabi featuring Adedimeji Lateef. Addressing the situation on X (formerly Twitter), Lateef reassured followers, saying:
“The internet was abuzz yesterday with some unsettling news about our principal partners, Netflix. Many have reached out with concerns regarding LISABI – A LEGEND IS BORN…”
“We’re pleased to announce to you that our relationship with the streaming platform is intact and the second part of our blockbuster movie, Lisabi will hit Netflix in January as promised.
“Anticipate magic, Trailer and Poster dropping soon.”
