Navigating cancer takes hope, Biden says after King Charles’s diagnosis
US President Joe Biden expressed his apprehension regarding King Charles’s recent cancer diagnosis and expressed his intention to connect with him soon.
Speaking to reporters in Las Vegas during a union event on Monday, he disclosed that he had only just been informed of the diagnosis, emphasizing his concern for the monarch’s well-being. Biden stated his hope to communicate with King Charles shortly if circumstances permit.
Earlier, Buckingham Palace had disclosed that the King was undergoing cancer treatment, without specifying the type of cancer. According to the Palace’s statement, the King commenced “regular treatments” on Monday.
Despite the diagnosis, he maintains an optimistic outlook toward his treatment and eagerly anticipates resuming his full public duties as soon as possible.
In a subsequent post on X platform later that Monday, President Biden extended his solidarity, acknowledging the profound courage and hope required in facing a cancer diagnosis, treatment, and recovery.
He and his wife, Jill, stand in solidarity with the people of the United Kingdom, offering prayers for His Majesty’s swift and complete recovery.
“Our thoughts are with the King… and his family,” spokesman Vedant Patel told reporters at a regular news briefing.
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau also sent well wishes to the King, saying Canadians were thinking of him. “We’re sending him our very best wishes – and hoping for a fast and full recovery,” he said.
Former President Donald Trump said the King was a “wonderful man who I got to know well during my presidency”.
“We all pray that he has a fast and full recovery,” he wrote on his social media site Truth Social.
Meanwhile, the BBC has been told that Prince Harry, who lives in California with his wife Meghan Markle, will travel to the UK to see his father.
The duke moved to the US with his wife, Meghan, Duchess of Sussex, after they stepped back as senior royals in 2020.
