Why I renamed Wizkid FC to Buhari’s children – Seun Kuti
Renowned musician Seun Kuti reflected on the renaming of his colleague Wizkid’s fanbase from Wizkid FC to “Buhari’s children” while addressing the issue of cyberbullying.
The Grammy-nominated artist highlighted cyberbullying and cyberstalking as serious concerns, emphasizing the explicit threats to life and the posting of individuals’ personal information online.
Drawing from his own experience, Kuti recalled a time when he mentioned that only four Nigerian artists, including himself, had received Grammy nominations, despite facing criticism about his musical abilities.
When asked about Wizkid following his remarks, Kuti clarified that only Wizkid’s video had been nominated, not his entire album.
Kuti noted that after his comments, members of “Buhari’s children” (formerly Wizkid FC), whom he described as uneducated individuals in Nigeria, criticized him for a whole week.
He never once told the police that he felt endangered, despite all the drama on the internet.
To protect the artist’s name, he added that he had altered the name from Wizkid FC to Buhari’s children.
