Five Steps To A Healthy Skin

Keeping your skin healthy can be frustrating. Between finding the right product combination and figuring out when and how to apply everything, your skin care regimen might stress you out even more than breakouts. This is a guideline for the powerful agents that help fight any skin issues you might have as well as avoid them.

Also, visit your dermatologist regularly to help plan the best strategy for anti-aging or stubborn skin issues according to your skin type.

1. Steam clean

When humidity, sweat, makeup, and pollution build up in your pores, they can look like dark blemishes. To maintain your lustre, steam your face over a bowl of hot water, cleanse with your usual face wash and splash with cold water to tighten your squeaky clean face.

2. H2O boost

Many times, washing your face frequently removes natural oils, which actually causes your face to overproduce oil. It’s only necessary to wash your face twice a day – once in the morning and once at night, but if you have dry skin, wash at night and just rinse with cold water when you get up. Follow up with a water-based moisturiser.

3. Whip out your toner

Toners are handy to keep in your bathroom drawer to help balance pH levels in your skin, look for toners that are free of irritants like alcohol, fragrance, menthol, colour or any other aggressive extracts.

4. Feed your skin

If your skin feels parched, it might be time to give up those salty snacks. Excess sodium in your system can suck the moisture out of the skin and leave it dull and dry. Cut back on the salty treats and invest in a gyrating facial moisturiser to combat dehydration.

Build up your skin’s health by including Vitamins C (oranges), B3 (peanuts), E (avocados) and A (Sweet potatoes) into your diet. Make sure to avoid the sweet stuff and stomp out sugar wherever possible. Proteins in your skin react to excessive amounts of sugar, which causes your skin to age faster.

5. Scrub-a-dub

Sugar scrub

The golden rule to remember when exfoliating is to be gentle. You want to remove all the outer dead cells, without damaging the underlying healthy, living cells.

Exfoliation will remove this dull outer layer, as well as stimulate the blood flow to your skin, brightening up your complexion, and leaving you with a fresh and healthy glow.

A simple home scrub you can make is by combining coconut oil and sugar (preferably brown) in a small bowl. Rub sugar face scrub into clean facial or neck skin, using gentle circular motions, for 60 seconds. Rinse with warm water, and dry.
