Iya Rainbow-Nollywood actress, Iya Rainbow’s full biography

Nollywood actress, Idowu Philips (born 16 October 1942), popularly called Iya Rainbow, is a Nigerian veteran actress and wife of the late Nigerian playwright Hubert Ogunde.

Early life:

She was born on 16 October 1942 at Ijebu Ode, a town in Ogun State, southwestern Nigeria. She was employed as a licensed nurse in general hospitals in Nigeria for several years and occasionally acted in theatre. She ventured into full-time acting after the death of her husband. She has featured in several Nigerian movies, including Apaadi, Eru, and Aje ni iya mi amongst others. She has five children.

Idowu Philips (born 16 October 1942), popularly known as Iya Rainbow, is a Nigerian veteran actress and wife of the late Nigerian playwright Hubert Ogunde.

Early life and career of Iya Rainbow

She was born on 16 October 1942 at Ijebu Ode, a city in Ogun State, southwestern Nigeria.

Her stage name “Iya Rainbow” stems from “Osumare” (meaning “rainbow” in British English), the name of the theatre group of her late husband, Sir Hubert Ogunde, who died in 1990.

She worked as a certified nurse in general hospitals in Nigeria for several years and occasionally acted in theatre. She ventured into full-time acting after the death of her husband.

She has featured in several Nigerian films, including Apaadi, Eru, and Aje ni iya mi among others. She has five children. She lost her daughter, Sola Osborne, on Thursday, January 14, 2016, after a protracted battle with ulcer.

She clocked 75 years in October, 2017

ABB learnt that she recently quit acting for pastoral work.

She has featured in several hundreds of Yoruba movies.
