Plum Allergy Symptoms, Diagnosis and Treatment

Plum allergy can range from moderate to severe symptoms. It belongs to both tree nut family and other fruits which have equal protein to plum may cause allergic reaction.

According to Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America, about 6% of allergy experiencing individuals have allergies. Soy, eggs, milk, wheat, peanuts, tree nuts, shellfish and fish are common food allergens.

Apart from being healthy fruit, proteins in plum may be allergic to sensitive men and women. Your immune system erroneously determines plum proteins as hazard and creates antibodies to find them. Following a few ingestion, antibodies signals to release histamine which leads to allergic symptoms.

Main purpose of the immune system would be to thwart these overseas bodies outside to save your physique. Symptoms may be mild and in rare cases cause life-threatening ailments.

Plum Allergy Symptoms

Signs of allergic response could be understood within 15 minutes of ingesting plum fruit. Local reactions such as itching, inflammation in tingling and tingling feeling round mouth can be seen.

Oral allergy syndrome or pollen related food allergy contains swelling of tongue, lips, tongue and itching round mouth.

Protein in birch pollen is like plum and individuals with birch pollen allergy can grow plum allergy. Other foods that could trigger the allergies include apples, pears, bananas, cherries, melons, hazelnuts and lettuce. This is due to cross reaction involving meals because of birch pollen.

Symptoms include:

  • Hives
  • Vomiting
  • Abdominal pain
  • Asthma
  • Swelling of mouth and lips
  • Difficulty in breathing
  • Anaphylaxis

The reason why people who’ve seasonal allergy experience oral allergy syndrome is that proteins in raw fruits are identical to proteins in pollen. Due to cross reactivity, when people with seasonal allergy ingest raw fruits or vegetables, immune system identifies similarity between food and pollen’s proteins and trigger reaction.

Diagnosis and Prevention

Whenever you realize symptoms of allergies, consult allergist for identification. He’ll run skin prick test to find out the particular allergen. Testing will be performed using different materials.

Request allergist for instant repairs to be obtained in acute problems. Put on a bracelet which may alert folks around you in life threatening ailments.
