Wool Allergy Symptoms and Diagnosis

You may not be allergic to wool, but your skin may gets irritated after wearing woolen sweater. So if you experience acute itching after touching wool, then don’t think you’re allergic to it.

Of course wool allergy does exist and hypersensitive person may experience red inflamed bumps over the skin.

 Lanolin oil is found in sheep’s fleece are located in cosmetic and other personal care products. Thus, if you are allergic to the oil, then you are going to be allergic to those products such as sheepswool.

A chemical reaction activates if your immune system becomes annoyed with components at the sheepswool (lanolin). To be able to guard your skin, it attempts to out them. IgE antibodies are introduced for this use, which arouses a chemical response and contributes to distinct allergic symptoms.

Wool Allergy Symptoms

This natural fiber comes in various grades, fine or thin levels, scratchy fiber and inexpensive wool.

These kinds irritate skin and some might also trigger allergic reaction due to chemical ingredients.

Intense allergies signs can be reduced by anti-histamines. Mild and severe allergy signs will need to get diagnosed.

Skin irritation

Signals over skin may be reddish bumps, itching or blisters. Sometimes, hypersensitive individual may also experience contact dermatitis. The reaction happens especially over wrist or underarms.

Just by blisters or itchy do not affirm that you are allergic. As stated previously, it is not necessarily allergic reaction that causes itching. It is suggested to consult dermatologist for identification.

Nasal Congestion

Hypersensitive person will see sneezing and nasal congestion problem. Along with it, watery itchy eyes can also be experienced.

Other allergic reaction

If you notice any negative reaction following wearing wool, then do not hold wool cloth for a culprit. Chemicals and dust mites settled over old wool clothing also trigger the reaction

At times the individual may experience rashes across skin and confused it as an allergic reaction. Little bristly fibers of woolen garments can irritate sensitive skin. But you can prevent this skin discomfort by wearing woolen sweater along with other heavy clothing.

So, it is pretty difficult to determine the allergen without diagnosis.

As soon as you experience any uncommon symptoms after wearing wool, don’t confirm that you’ve wool allergy.

Consult doctor, he/she will conduct a skin prick test to determine the allergen.

Once, the allergen is confirmed you can accordingly follow the prescription.
