3 Important Reasons to Consider Daily Mileage Tracking

3 Important Reasons to Consider Daily Mileage Tracking

Before the invention of computers, drivers that were hired to operate business vehicles had to produce the receipts that they got from various filling stations. Some businesses had to put their inspectors at strategic points. All these tactics are past tense. The coming of smartphones has made it easier for business owners to track the mileage of their cars. If you own a fleet of vans, you can tell how far each vehicle has gone in a day by using an app that’s installed on your smartphone. Here is a list of reasons why it’s important to monitor your business vehicles with mobile apps such as Trip Log.

  1. Purchase of Computers not Necessary

Most people will tell you that you need to have a computer before you can start monitoring the movements of your fleet. In fact, a smartphone is all you need. The advantage of using a smartphone is that you can keep tabs on your business’ fleet from any location. This is far much better than using a computer because you will have to wait until you return to your office to be able to check the routes that were used by your company vehicles. The other advantage is that you use apps that are supported by Android, Windows and iOS phones. Moreover, you are able to do the math on your tax deductions by using the mileage that’s recorded by the app. Regardless of where your venture is located, you are entitled to mileage deductions when calculating your tax returns. You must, therefore, account for each trip that was made to deliver a product to a customer and as well the trips made while going to collect materials.

  1. Prevent Misuse of Company Vehicle

Once you have installed a mileage tracking app in your car, you will be able to locate it at any time of the day. In fact, this is the best remedy for taming drivers that like to use your cars to impress their girlfriends or loved ones. With such an app, none of your employees will misuse your car because they know that you are regularly checking the route they take. Unfortunately for them, they don’t know where the device is located, so they can’t tamper with it when they are up to mischief. In addition to that, you can tell if your drivers over speed while on the road by checking the summary report that’s provided by the app and take the necessary disciplinary action. Some models even issue a warning when the weather is not favorable.

  1. You can Schedule for Regular Maintenance

Each car that’s in your fleet of vehicles should be taken to the garage after it has covered a certain mileage. This is because damages of an engine and other parts are experienced when a vehicle goes for many days without being attended to by a mechanic. When you use an app, it’s easier to tell when a certain vehicle has covered the specified mileage. Besides that, the tracking app helps in accounting for fuel consumption. You can actually use the receipts that are normally issued at filling stations and compare them with the miles covered so that you can see whether the math makes sense. Keep in mind that there are some crooked drivers that siphon fuel and sell it to make extra bucks.
